JAMIE MURRAY HITS A WINNER AT SPORTEDD

British tennis star and seven times Grand Slam doubles winner Jamie Murray served up a treat for another sell-out SporTedd audience at The Wharf restaurant in May 2026. His cardboard cut-out also proved to be a big hit on the night with woman guests battling over who was taking ‘him’ home. and eagerly posing for photos too. Jamie himself, who had recently announced his retirement from his glittering 20-year tennis career, was in equal demand and happily posed for photos and talked about his plans for the future including a YouTube project with younger brother Andy and various tennis commentary commitments. He was joined by journalist Stuart Fraser, who covered tennis for fifteen years for The Times, and recalled some of his off-court experiences with the Murray brothers and gave examples of their competitiveness to interviewer Alison Kervin OBE. His cardboard cut-out was amongst the raffle prizes which included two of his signed rackets – one which he played with in the last US Open – and giant tennis balls, Murray mints, rugby tickets, a signed England rugby shirt and two big boxes of Walkers crisps. The event raised over £2000 to support local sport-themed projects and achieved a new milestone in attracting more female guests then men amongst the 88-strong audience.

RUGBY DOUBLE-ACT BREAKS FUNDRAISING RECORD

SporTedd broke new ground with an impromptu auction at its March 2026 event attended by rugby stars Lawrence Dallaglio and Rob Henderson. Over 80 guests attended the dinner at The Wharf restaurant and lapped up the storytelling of the rugby double-act, especially so soon after what has been described as the ‘best Six Nations ever’ with Ireland picking up the Triple Crown and France topping the table. The traditional raffle and Rob’s generous auction of two tickets for Ireland v France and offer of two golf sessions with him and Lawrence combined to raise over £6000 – a record for any SporTedd event. Guests were told by SporTedd Chair Trevor Alldridge that SporTedd had raised and donated over £125000 to local sport-themed projects including clubs and schools.

Track legend Sir Mo Farah is a surprise guest at SporTedd

Track legend Sir Mo Farah was a surprise guest at the latest SporTedd fundraising Olympic Preview event at The Wharf in Teddington. The four times Gold medallist is one of the world’s greatest long distance runners and was a familiar figure locally when he lived in Waldegrave Road and trained in Bushy Park. His appearance was a massive boost to the event and he agreed to join the panel of former 2004 Olympic Gold medallist 100 metre relay star Jason Gardener, Olympic swimmer Mark Foster, Gold medal winning Fiji rugby 7’s coach Ben Ryan and 10.000 metre record holder David Bedford. Former sports editor Alison Kervin quizzed the panel about their differing Olympic experiences and memorable stories including their training regimes and their views on the upcoming Olympics in Paris. SporTedd chair Trevor Alldridge said: “We continue to be overwhelmed by the generosity of our sporting hero guests who give their time freely to support SporTedd and of course all those who attend and help us support those local sporting organisations which need a bit of financial help.” About 80 guests enjoyed a three course supper at the riverside restaurant where raffle prizes included Team GB memorabilia, tickets for England v Japan at Twickenham, signed photos, vouchers for local restaurants and boxes of Walkers crisps. SporTedd was set up to raise funds for local sport-themed projects and is close to reaching a massive £100.000 milestone.
